"I'm just saying. He was white as a sheet when I found him. He still doesn't like to talk about it."
Avaja led Gem up the stairs towards their room at the Pokemon Center. They had managed to make it to Violet City, but not before sundown. Luckily, they had secured one of the last rooms available, except there was a catch. The nurse at the front desk claimed it was haunted. Riiiiight. At first, Avaja had merely cast it off as a hoax in order to attract tourists with an affinity for the supernatural. In short, a scheme, a sham, baloney and flimflam. Nothing rakes in money for a city like a myth. Despite adamant pleading that they find somewhere else to stay, Avaja had counter-argued that it was getting late, the next Pokemon Center was miles away, and both he and Gem were exhausted. The nurse had eventually relented and given them the key. But Avaja had taken a parting glance at the nurse as they headed towards their room, and found that she was staring right back at him, wide-eyed and tight-lipped with a particularly grim expression on her face.
The haunted room had gotten the two of them on the subject of the paranormal, so Avaja was in the middle of telling Gem about a strange occurance that had taken place right in their own little neck of the woods, New Bark Town. Apparently, while Avaja was crashing at his friend Lucas's house, Lucas had a dream that at 12:01 am, some sort of monster with cold, skeletal fingers had crawled out of his closet and strangled him in his bed. He awoke at exactly midnight and glanced at his closet instinctively. Just as the clock hit 12:01, the closet door opened. Lucas's screaming woke up Avaja, who burst into Lucas's room to investigate, but just found him curled up in bed like a burrito, shivering and sweating like a madman. No monsters, just a severely disturbed Lucas.
"And before you hit me with the whole "he's probably making it up to freak you out" schtick, I'm telling you, you should've seen his face, Gem. He wasn't joking. Anyways, what about you, ever been spooked?"
