Avaja ran his fingers through his hair lazily, yawning as he tried to shake off his own tiredness. Lack of sleep was becoming quite the tradition for him, no matter how much he tried to break the habit. It wasn't that he didn't want to sleep. It was the fact that his brain refused to shut down.
And it only seemed interested in reliving the worst memories.
Pausing at a freshwater stream, Avaja dipped his fingers in and splashed his face gently in the cool water. It seemed to have helped a bit; at least enough so that he wouldn't collapse on the side of the road to have a quick snooze. He shook his hair, sending tiny droplets of water every which way.
Eh. She always knew how to perk him up. Where was she anyways?
As he approached the Professor's Lab, Avaja straightened his jacket, checked his breath, and knocked on the door hesitantly, wondering what Pokemon he would begin his journey with...

From behind the door there was a series of crashes, bangs, and even some screams. It was as if whatever was going on behind the door was straight from a horror movie. Or hard porn. Knowing the latter definitely wasn't true, it's to be assumed that any passerby was surely getting worried about what was happening to whoever was currently in the lab, but before anyone could actually spring into action and bust through the door, the door opened.
Hovering in front of the soon-to-be trainer was a little white Pokemon with a set of tiny wings. The Pokemon blinked a few times then smiled. "Toge! Togetic!" The Normal type exclaimed then shot back into the lab, leaving the door cracked open. A few seconds later, the commotion from inside came to a stop. And just then, the Togetic returned, this time accompanied by a thin man in white lab coat.
The man cleared his throat, fixed his coat and smoothed his ratty brown hair back into place before smiling at you. "Hello! Welcome to my Pokemon Research lab," he motioned you inside as he continued to talk. "This is where I do all of my research on Pokemon Breeding and Pokemon Evolution. The two subjects are linked, you know. Did you hear about my recent discovery? It's quite fascinating, to say the least. Basically, I put a Skitty and a Wailoard together and they-"
Thankfully, the Togetic at his side tugged his shirt sleeve and caused the professor to stop his rated R rant about the Skitty/Wailord relationship. Professor Elm chuckled and scratched his head. "Right... Anyway... What can I do for you?" He smiled at you.
This would be a great time to point out that his lab was in utter ruins. Papers were scattered everywhere, leftovers from insta-meals were randomly placed on tables and chairs, and everything seemed to Not be placed in it's proper place. Nevertheless, the Professor seemed to get around the lab just fine, considering there was a neat path carved out on the floor which was surely the same path he walked every day when coming into the lab.
Some professor this guy was.

Eyes widened, Avaja hunched his shoulders nervously as he stared back and forth between the eccentric Professor and his matching labratory. He couldn't make out which of the two was more wild and unkempt.
...or experienced a thorough cleaning...
Avaja stepped inside slowly after the Professor, glancing about curiously. He enjoyed his room a bit messy as much as the next guy, but this? This was an entirely new level. Papers, graphs, tests, notes, and essays were strewn about all over the place. He couldn't understand how the Professor hadn't lost his mind yet.
...just as Avaja had that thought, the Professor casually mentioned something about pairing off a Skitty and a Wailord.
Unbelievable.
Gripping his nasal bridge and shaking his head slightly, Avaja tried to cast aside the thought from his mind. "I'm Avaja, Avaja Alerion, Professor. It's...uh...nice to meet you. If you're not too...busy, I was hoping you could help me. I'm actually interested in getting my first Pokemon and becoming an official trainer..."

For a few stupid moments, Professor Elm simply blinked at you at the mention of becoming a trainer. In all honesty, most trainers didn't come to this lab for their Pokemon, simply because of Professor Elm's title of being the "Crazy Professor". He rubbed the back of his neck as he gathered his thoughts. He glanced up at his Flying companion. "Togetic... Can you get me the..." he was cut off by the Pokemon grinning, saluting him and then flying off.
"Do you know which Pokemon you want?" Elm asked as he waited for his Pokemon to return. "The first gym is a Flying type, so you might want to prepare accordingly. Falkner is a rather odd boy, always blaming his dad for him losing. I swear, one time I went up there and that kid was nearly," he stopped himself when Togetic appeared holding a few cards.
Elm smiled and took the cards. He then held up each card as he spoke, the card having an image of a Pokemon. "Our first option is Cyndaquil, the Fire type. Then we have a Chikorita, a Totodile, Mareep, and finally, a Togepi which evolve into my partner Togetic." The Flying type grinned and waved upon being acknowledge. "So, Which one will it be?"

Avaja glanced at the cards uninterestedly for a moment...until one of them caught his eye. It was the card with the fire type, Cyndaquil, on it. It looked like a tiny shrew with bright red flames spurting from its back. He took the card from Professor Elm's grasp and stared down at it numbly.
Seemed like for once, playing with fire would be a good thing.
"...Professor, could I have this one? Cyndaquil?" Avaja said, handing the card back. "I dunno if it would give me much of a type advantage against flying Pokemon, but I'm sure with enough training, we'll do alright."
Avaja thought ahead to what kind of Pokemon the little guy would evolve into, with enough training. He'd hate to be at the receiving end of those flames, that's for sure. If he was remembering correctly, a good place to train would be somewhere with plenty of grass and bug type Pokemon, where he would have a type advantage, and he would win fairly easily.

With the flick of his wrist, all of the cards neatly folded into a clean stack and he nodded. "Cyndaquil it is. Togetic can you go get the pack and whatnot?" He asked the fairy-like Pokemon. Togetic nodded, giggled, then shot off into another room. Moments later, the Pokemon returned holding a box that was nearly as big as her.
When you took the box, the Professor began explaining it's contents. "Inside you have five pokeballs for catching Pokemon, some Potions, Full Heals, and Revives which will help you when your Pokemon get hurt. Then you have a Pokede which records information on every Pokemon you see and catch. A Town Map, which explains itself. And finally a Tm and Hm case which will hold your 'technical machines' and 'hidden machines' which are moves that you can teach to your Pokemon. Tms and Hms don't break so use them as often as you want!" He said with a grin. "And finally, the pokeball with the flame on it has your Cyndaquil." He exhaled slowly as he caught his breath.
He gave you a moment to absorb it all then finally added. "Anything else i can help you with today, Rookie Trainer?"

Avaja's Cyndaquil [/u] Name: Y'vir (Ee-veer) Level: 5 Type: Fire Ability: Flash Fire Attacks: Tackle, Leer Base Stats: 309 Personality: Rash[/center] Avaja couldn't help but grin as he held up the load of supplies the Professor had bestowed upon him. And, most importantly, on top of the stack was the Pokeball that held his new partner inside of it, Cyndaquil. Avaja was a bit of an aficionado when it came to names, so he really wanted to name his first partner something special. Pressing the center button on the Pokeball, Avaja returned it to its full size and released the Pokemon inside, who uttered a cry and stretched as flames erupted from his back. Avaja yelped and backed away instinctively, although he calmed himself after an awkward moment. "...guess I'll have to get used to that..." Avaja muttered under his breath. Cyndaquil just cocked his tiny head and stared up at him with a confused expression. Rubbing his chin in thought, Avaja contemplated what to name his very first Pokemon. "Let's see...how about...Y'vir? Do you like it?"When Cyndaquil's expression didn't change, Avaja took that as a yes. "Y'vir it is. It's got a nice ring to it, if I do say so myself." Avaja returned Y'vir to his pokeball and faced the Professor, shaking his hand warmly. "I think I have everything I need. It was nice to meet you Professor, and thanks for everything."
