Gemini stumbled out of the tiny house, pulling her bag over her shoulder. "Have I got everything...?" she mumbled to herself. She tugged at the strap of the bag, tightening it. "Duh. Of course I do." Her mother had made her pack and repack three different times. The lady was a worrywart, and her worries were causing Gemini to be hours late. A glance at her watch indicated that it was almost noon.
"Great. Just fantastic." Not that she had wanted to go bug the Pokemon Professor at the crack of dawn, but she had hoped to at least get her pick of starter Pokemon. Now that she was hours late, there may not be any left.
Figuring that late was late, she decided to take her time. The soft spring air was nice, and she took a few minutes to meander from one bunch of bright flowers to the next. A few minutes extra couldn't hurt him, right? But... it had been hours already. He was probably concerned. Worried. And Gemini had a conscience. Guilt. Even though it was her mother's fault.
Frowning ever so slightly, she pulled herself from a bunch of irises and took on a mimicked military march the rest of the way to the Professor's famous Lab. Steeling herself, she took a deep breath at the front door. Raising her fist and knocking the door, she called out an unsteady, "Hello?"
Was Gemini ready to meet the crazy Professor?

The greatest advantage Professors had was their specific field specialization. For example, Professor Elm was the person to talk to when it comes to Pokemon Breeding. He was an intellectual giant. He could talk all day long about the subject, and argue hypotheses at the Pokemon Symposium with the best of the best.
However, when it came to multi-tasking, like carrying a cup of coffee and walking at the same time, well...let's just say he didn't have quite as much authority over his two left feet.
As the lab door creaked open, a scrawny, middle-aged man with messy brown hair stood in the doorway. "...that really smarts..." He muttered, squinting from behind his glasses before wiping them on his shirt. A large, brown stain was spattered all over his white lab coat, which caused him to grimace miserably. That would no doubt leave a mark...
Glancing down, he raised his eyebrows in surprise. "Oh, hello there. How can I help you today?"

Gemini's mouth fell open at the sight of the rumpled man before her. She might not have been the most graceful creature on the planet, but coffee? Ouch. And while Elm may have had a reputation for being a bit ...eccentric, why would he keep such a klutzy aide around? Not that she would say anything so rude to the poor aide himself, but maybe she'd mention it to Professor Elm as she was picking out her starter...
As she opened her mouth to ask for the Pokemon Professor, she caught sight of the man's name tag. 'Elm', it read. Oops. Gemini promptly shut her mouth and turned beet red. She continued to flub like a fish out of water for a few painfully long moments. The Professor was probably completely baffled at her strange behavior, but she couldn't help it. Still blushing, she found her words.
"I'd.. um.. like to get a starter, please. Professor."
She spoke to her feet in a loud, detached sort of tone. Stupid shyness.

Professor Elm noticed the shy blush rising through the girl's cheeks and smiled as disarmingly as he could at her. He had sent countless trainers off on their journeys, and he knew she must be nervous. As a generally shy and reserved person himself, he knew how it felt, so he tried his best to present himself in a comforting, amicable light.
"Y-you don't have to be nervous, y'know. I don't bite. But did you know some species of Pokemon actually bite each other before mating? Or, for that matter, afterwards? Right there on the flank. It-it's really quite fascinating..." And he immediately regretted speaking as soon as the words left his mouth. He sighed softly and ran a hand through his hair.
It seemed that no matter how old he got, he would still be terrible at small-talk.
"Anyways, you say you'd like a starter? Absolutely."
He smiled, leading the girl inside and indicating several quivering pokeballs on his desk. "Did you have a particular Pokemon in mind? A tall boy with a green shirt and red hair came by earlier this morning and took a Cyndaquil, but I still have a Chikorita, Totodile, Mareep, and a cute little Togepi available. Who knows: I might even have another Cyndaquil back there, if you like."

Gemini blinked in surprise. She and he sister had discussed these types of mating behaviors, but... that wasn't really the sort of thing you told a random stranger. She opened her mouth to comment about the viciousness of Salamence mating, but the Professor had already moved on the conversation. Stupid hesitation.
A tall guy with red hair? She smiled to herself. The Professor's description sounded just like Avaja--especially the part about the Cyndaquil. He did seem to like playing with fire... And suddenly, she was required to speak again. What were her options again? She had stopped listening after a bit..
"The Chikorita, please, Professor. I have a fondness for grass Pokemon, actually..."
In a childlike manner, she reached for her desired Pokeball and brushed her fingertips against its smooth surface. She wasn't lying, exactly. Life, growth, these things were important to her. ...On the other hand, she really should have been paying more attention.

Professor Elm opened his mouth to say something when a cuckoo clock on the far wall sprung to life as a pidgey extended from it, cawing loudly. The Professor's eyes widened as he reached out his arm and rolled up his sleeve, revealing 8 different watches. "Oh, goodness! Is it that time already?!" As he spoke, Elm hurriedly slung on his coat (inside out) and rushed about his lab, gathering several things and stuffing them into a briefcase. "I'm very, very late to a meeting in Cherrygrove City! Ohhh...they'll take my lab for this one..." The Professor quickly snatched the usual starting trainer kit from a shelf behind his desk and put the pokeball containing Chikorita beside it. "Th-there's everything you'll be needing to start your journey, and if-if you ever need any help, feel free to drop me a line." "Have I forgotten anything...? I feel like I'm forgetting something important..." His eyes caught sight of a pokeball in the back corner of the lab, isolated from the rest. It almost had a rather lonely and sorrowful aura about it, the way it was hunched over in the corner, gathering dust. He walked over to it and picked it up, rubbing it on his shirt to shine it slightly. "Hmm. I wonder..." He took the strange pokeball over and held it out in his hand. "I'm sorry to bother you with such a request, but I don't suppose you'd like to take another Pokemon with you? You see, this Pokemon is very special, and I've been running several tests on it. But I'm afraid this type of life isn't good for its health. A good trainer should be raising it, not a Professor." " I'm so sorry about this, but I really have to get going! I know you're the best person for the job and this must be a very exciting time for you! I hope you have a great journey! Goodbye and good luck to you!!"~End of thread~
