Dear Journal,
SHE SAID YESSSS
...not so fast. I know what you're thinking. And no, that's...not what she said yes about. I mean, I-I've thought about it and all and she's definitely the girl I want to spend the rest of my life with. It's just...bad timing? We're still young. I don't even know if she'd say yes to that--
...ahem, but I digress.
Anyways, what she actually said yes about was to come with me. And that's good, because climbing that tree to reach her window was not easy. I couldn't stop smiling all the way home. I know I woke up (and/or scared) a few people because I just burst into laughter. I couldn't hold in how excited I was. I got home, pressed my back against the door and slid down onto the floor.
Still couldn't get that goofy grin off my face.
What's that, Journal? You say that I shouldn't be trying to take her away from her family? You say it's wrong? You're asking how a guy like me sleeps at night? Well, allow me to answer that question with another question. Y'know that cute little grin she does when she's really, really happy about something?
That's how I sleep at night.
We're leaving to get our first pokemon tomorrow morning at the Professor's lab, and we'll leave our mark all over the world. I wonder which Pokemon to pick...
...pfft, yeah right. I already know I'm getting the fire type.
Heh. Later.

Dear Journal,
Today I got my starter. (Fire type, of course.) It was a Cyndaquil; seems to be pretty Rash tempered. Don't believe me? Let me give you some examples. Flock of pidgeys? Guess who's the first one to sprint straight for them like a bat out of hell. If I drop even a crumb of my lunch, I don't even bother looking down, because it's already gone. Fiesty little thing.
I think we're gonna get along just fine.
Anyways, I've been waiting just outside of town all morning, pretty much just killing time. I promised Gem I'd wait for her here. I thought about going ahead and starting training, but I doubt she would like the idea of me getting a head start, and...hey, come closer. I have to make sure she's not reading over my shoulder. I know she seems super nice and gentle to everyone, but she's got a wild side, too. I've seen it.
And I do not want to see it again. Gives me the chills just thinking about it.
...anyways, I'll let you know how the rest of the day turns out.
Later.

Dear Journal,
Looks like I've got two more mouths to feed.
I was waiting for Gem just on the outskirts of the city when I hear a really faint cry and rustling in the brush. I, being the responsible, nosy adult I am, immediately investigate, more out of boredom than anything else. Behind a covering of bushes, I see two weird-looking pokemon caught in traps. One of them was hanging in a net above my head. She looked like an Absol...but she had a weird hue I had never seen before. Her fur, skin, and horn were all reddish colored. She seemed to be unconscious; she was lying limply in the net. Maybe she had passed out after struggling for so long trying to escape...?
The other, the one I must have heard, was deep down in a pit, surrounded by leaves. It was a baby Riolu, and he had quite the attitude. He growled up at me and attempted (probably for the hundredth time) to climb out, only to slip and fall painfully back to the bottom. Covered in scratches and bruises, he just winced and glared up at me, panting with effort. If I hadn't come along, it would have been some Poacher's lucky day.
"Hang on, little guy, I'll get you out of there!" I shouted down at him.
Pulling out my pocket knife, I clenched it between my teeth and climbed the tree above the Absol. Dunno what compelled my monkey-like instincts to come out, but I managed to force myself onto the branch and cut down the net, sending Absol crashing to the ground in a slump.
I flinched. "...I probably could have done that a little more gently..."
Jumping down, I slid the net out from beneath Absol and slung it into the hole. "Climb up!" I yelled. Riolu seemed hesitant, but got to his feet and clambered out of his prison, immediately darting a safe distance from me, but still watching me with curious eyes. I figured he would run off anyway, so I had already knelt down to fix up the Absol, who looked like she was in even worse shape than Riolu. I pulled a Potion out of my bag and prepared to spray it on her wounds when her eyes suddenly shot open.
Next thing I knew, I was on my back with a snarling Absol pinning me down. She must have been pretending to be fainted the whole time. Pretty smart for such a young Pokemon.
Suddenly, something wet hit my face. I realized, astonished, she was crying.
Who knows how long this Pokemon had been stuck in that trap? Hungry, exhausted, confused, and probably scared out of her mind, Riolu included. I held up my hands in defeat, but I pulled the trigger on the Potion I was holding. She seemed taken aback at first, growling in surpise. But she hesitantly crawled off of me and stood in front of Riolu defensively. Seemed like they had some sort of brother-sister relationship.
Knowing that I had already overstayed my welcome, I left all the berries I could for them to eat and headed back for the path. I was just beginning to wonder if they would be alright when I noticed that they were both following me, munching the berries happily.
I wondered if this was like a stray cat situation. Y'know, feed them a fish and next time they'll be back for the whole fishtank? I knelt down and asked them if they wanted to come with me, my answer being an emphatic chorus of "Sol!" and "Rio!"
Now, Journal, I know you know I name all of my pokemon. And these two were no substitute.
The Absol's new name is Lilith, or Lily for short. Seems to be pretty brave and protective of the little Riolu she travels with, who I call Zion, Zi for short (I know Zion is pretty short already. But it's *my* Riolu. I'll call it what I want. Buzz off.) Zion's more of the naughty type; he likes to trip me. Hopefully I'll be able to train that out of him in the future. With any luck.
Man...who knew being a Pokemon Trainer could be so eventful? Quite a story for Gem later.
Later.
